Conrad John Strohacker, 88, passed peacefully at home in Albuquerque on February 20, 2024. He was born on October 25, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Morgan Park High School, where he garnered the yearbook title, "Most Likely to Succeed". During his career, he fulfilled this title as shoe buyer with Marshall Field's department store in downtown Chicago, and as a successful business owner in Albuquerque. Conrad loved his life's work and finally resolved to retire from his business of 4 decades at age 78.
He was an 80+ year Chicago Cubs fan, faithfully attending spring training as a season ticket holder for almost 20 years in Mesa, Arizona. Conrad loved watching sports of any kind and enjoyed rooting for the Lobos, Dukes and Isotopes. He looked forward to meeting friends for Sunday tennis matches and watching Wimbledon. He also found joy in watching his grandchildren's sporting events. His kind demeanor and warm smile were contagious to all around him.
Conrad is survived by his wife Mary of 57 years, daughter Sheila Salyers and husband, David of Centennial, Colorado, grandchildren Margo, Drew and Reid, daughter Julie Pfeiffer and husband Todd of Albuquerque, and grandchildren Evan, Natalie and Annlyn. He is also survived by his brother Curt Strohacker and sisters Catherine Grzanka and Cynthia Fendel. A private family mass and celebrations will be held at a later date in Albuquerque and Chicago. In lieu of flowers, donations appreciated at Saranamabq.org, YMCA of Central New Mexico, or Rotary Del Norte Foundation.
A Funeral Service for Conrad will take place on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at St. John XVII Catholic Community. A Reception will be held immediately after the service.
