Obituary
Ellen Marie Carmichael, age 83, passed away on June 4, 2023 with her daughter Karren and son James by her side. Ellen had a kind heart and a great sense of emptiness was felt by everyone who had the fortune of having her in their lives.
Ellen was the youngest of a large Italian family of 8 and was born in Willoughby, Ohio in 1939 to the late James and Paola (nee Branchiforte) Rugnetta. Ellen married Charles Carmichael in 1964 and moved to New Mexico in 1978 where she worked at Kistler-Collister and Modern Deb in Albuquerque and eventually settled in Artesia, New Mexico.
Before living with dementia, Ellen raised three children, Karren, Daniel and James and grandchildren Daniel Jr and Jesse. She made a loving home for her family, had a sense of humor, an infectious laugh, a spirited and energetic personality, loved to cook, enjoyed gardening and bowling, and rescued and loved many pets during her lifetime.
Ellen was preceded in death in February by her husband Charles and sisters, Fran Behnke, Kerry Shusta, Angela Hamilton, Marian Sullivan, Theresa Jackson and Vincenza Klco.
Ellen is survived by her children, Karren, Daniel, and James; brother Frank Rugnetta (Dixie); grandchildren, Brandon (Nayeli Ramirez), Eric (Justine), Daniel, Jesse; three great grandchildren (Adi, Oliver, Calvin), sister-in-law Marion, brother-in-law David (Sandy) and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions donated in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association of NM https://www.alz.org/newmexico
Cremation has taken place and at her request no service will be held. She wanted you to remember her in your own way and in your own time.
