Esther Castillo Obituary
Esther M. Castillo was born March 10th, 1947, and passed away peacefully on August 6th, 2025, surrounded by family. She was proceeded in death by her parents Ramon and Gregorita Castillo, sister Louisa, brothers Filemon, David, and Gilbert Castillo; and bonus brothers Ed Thorburn and Edwin Montano.
She is survived by her favorite (and only) child Dianna and son-in-law Gary Hotovec, granddaughters Megan Hotovec and husband Tommy; Emily Hotovec and fiancé Robin; sisters Patsy Sandoval (Celestino); Dolores Thorburn; Jennie Jaramillo (Phil); Lydia Montano, and Ruth Castillo; a beautiful, glorious group of nieces and nephews, her wonderful caregiver Luz, and many lifetime friends. Ma was a lovely, lively, spirited woman with a resounding personality and a finely tuned sense of humor, and will be remembered for her wit, charm, laughter, lack of patience, and knack for telling it like it is. Ma loved the Lord, family, friends, a good cup of coffee, her grand dog Brenda, another good cup of coffee, Charley Pride & Marty Robbins, a third good cup coffee that she never finished, oversized sunglasses, and a rousing debate-in that exact order. She excelled at annihilating everyone at Jeopardy! praying to St. Anthony, competitive bragging, and showing off photos of
her family. She was also a strong advocate for equality and left behind many bold, outspoken women to carry on her legacy. She encouraged us to speak up, speak loud, and never settle. In our hearts, that unwavering voice will never go silent. Most importantly she was my Ma, and I love her and miss her more than words can express.
