James Nathan Spells (Jim), 83, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away February 5th, 2024, at his home in
Albuquerque, NM.
He was born on December 30th, 1940, to his father Lewis Spells and Sally Williams.
At the age of 19, Jim enlisted in the Air Force. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of
Master Sergeant. As part of this service, he received many awards, Ribbons, and Decorations
including the Air Force Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Clusters.
He married Mary Lou on May 12th,1985 in which they brought their two families together including
Jim's two Children and Mary Lou's daughter.
After retiring from the Air Force he did continue to work, moving over to Sandia National Labs.
Work was not Jim's entire life. He kept his sense of adventure after his service and enjoyed Road
trips and camping. You could catch him and his wife out in the wilderness fishing just as happy as
could be. Another life long hobby Jim held was a never ending infinity for anything technological.
Who knew one man could own so many tablets and printers. Then on the other end of the scale he
loved woodworking - hiding in the garage for hours making wooden puzzles.
Jim is survived by his wife Mary Lou, children Regina, Anthony, step daughter Shelley,
grandchildren (by age) Ariana, Miguel, Jerad, Danielle, Mina and great grandchild Porter as well as
his siblings Harvey, Tommy, Elizabeth, May, Katie Marie, Pauline, Linda as well as many nephews
and nieces
